Focus on... Kent Jewels: Wild Pansy Brooch

On the occasion of Prince Michael’s birth (or Princess Alexandra – there are conflicting reports), the Duke of Kent gave his wife a present of a lovely brooch.

The Cartier brooch is in the form of wild pansy, or viola tricolour, and is embellished with sapphires, emeralds and black pearls.

Princess Marina wore this brooch for the christening of her youngest child, Prince Michael. Perhaps for that reason, she left it to him in her will.

Princess Marina has worn the brooch extensively, although usually as centrepiece of various multi-stone and coloured necklaces.

It's an interesting brooch but somehow I would expect a bit more of a piece that contains emeralds, sapphires, and black pearls.
